On 6 August 2019, the Legal Development Program (LDP) held the Enhancing Collaboration on Legislation to Improve Road Safety in Thailand meeting at the River Tree House, Nonthaburi. Participants included LDP members, policy influencers and decision makers.
After a welcome speech by LDP Manager Dr Wiwat Seetamanotch LDP members provided updates on the program’s progress in motorcycle safety policy advocacy and reforming the laws and regulations related to the demerit point system reform and judicial procedures for handling traffic cases. This was followed by a presentation on motorcycle safety by representatives from WHO Geneva, the Global New Car Assessment Programme and FIM Europe. The meeting concluded with a series of statements of commitments made by key stakeholders including Senator Surachai Liengboonlertchai and Chartthaipattana Party’s director Nikorn Chamnong along with representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, WHO SEARO, Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited and Safer Roads Foundation (SRF).
